What is Financial Therapy?
I recently spoke to a reporter at the Wall Street Journal. Ms. Albrecht called and wanted to interview for an article about Financial Therapy and specifically to learn how a financial therapist works. “What exactly is Financial Therapy?” she asked. That began a long conversation about what Financial Therapy is and is not. The short answer to that question is:
“Financial therapy sits at the intersection of financial advice and psychoanalysis. It’s therapy that helps people uncover the source of emotions guiding their money decisions and, in the process, end self-destructive behaviors related to money.”
